It is the first official full day of spring and we have made it through week 1 of Flexible Instruction! I know how busy you all must be and that this is not the most ideal situation, but if we can get through this and remain healthy, we will be better for it! Please feel free to share pictures of the children because I’d love to see what they’ve been up to! I miss all of their sweet little faces!
I am trying to post ideas here that I know require simple materials that you may have laying around your house. I may post some activities that do require more than what you may have, but don’t stress, these are simply suggestions. If you’d like to send me a schedule of how your days have been typically going that is great! If you feel you may need some more guidance in this area I will help any way I can. Please let me know.
Here are some ideas for today:
Sensory: Ice cube play-let the children play with ice cubes. Simple and FUN!
Gross Motor: Bowling-Set up empty water bottles and roll a ball to knock them down!
Fine Motor: Peeling tape-Simply stick tape to a table in criss cross patterns and have your child pull it off.

I came across this website that I found very interesting. It tells of the importance of reading with your child. You can explore the site yourself but here is an excerpt from it:
“It will help, however, if we open our eyes to some things adult readers tend to take for granted...Here are a few concepts we adults know so well, we forget sometimes we ever learned them.
Also, talk about what you see in the book. Remember that reading aloud comes naturally to very few people. To do it successfully and with ease, you must practice.

- There's a difference between words and pictures. Point to the print as you read aloud.
- Words on a page have meaning, and that is what we learn to read.
- Words go across the page from left to right. Follow with your finger as you read.
- Words on a page are made up of letters and are separated by a space.
- Each letter has at least two forms: one for capital letters and one for small letters.”
Also, talk about what you see in the book. Remember that reading aloud comes naturally to very few people. To do it successfully and with ease, you must practice.
